Built from FSC-certified fir, pressure-treated for outdoor use and left unpainted so it greys naturally. The bed is 30 cm deep — enough for tomatoes, chard and root vegetables, not just herbs — and holds roughly 90 litres of compost. A perforated liner separates soil from timber and drains into the tray below, and the lower shelf takes tools, watering can and spare pots.

Oil the timber once a year with a clear outdoor wood oil to slow greying. Clear the drainage holes each spring. Empty and move it under cover if winters are severe where you are.
