A 300 litre composter in recycled polypropylene, sized for a household and a small garden. The dark walls hold warmth, the vented sides keep the heap aerated without turning it weekly, and the hinged lid keeps rain and animals out. Finished compost comes out of the hatch at the bottom while the top is still filling, so the bin never has to be emptied to be used.

Alternate green waste with brown — cardboard, dry leaves, straw — and keep the heap as damp as a wrung-out cloth. Turn it every few weeks if you want it faster. Site it on soil rather than paving so worms can find it.
